Full-Time Organizer

Local Description: United Academics of Philadelphia (AFT #9608) is a metro-wide higher education union serving the greater Philadelphia area. We currently have one collective bargaining unit (adjunct faculty at Arcadia University)and one non-collective bargaining unit. In addition to serving & connecting our current members, we are constantly looking to organize new units of higher ed workers in the greater Philadelphia area.

Position Description (Union Organizer): UAP is seeking a highly organized and motivated person to join our team as a Full-Time Union Organizer. In this position, you will be assigned parts of various different campaigns at different institutions (i.e., new union organizing, contract campaigns, membership drives, etc…) and be tasked with organizing and leading the members to accomplish their respective goals. You will work directly alongside two other Full-Time Union Organizers and with one Lead Organizer, and you will report to the Executive Board (or its designee).

Essential Functions: Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to: one-on-one outreach to engage and activate workers; identification, recruitment, and development of activists; campaign research; development, production, and distribution of campaign communications; directing the activities of campaign activists and volunteers; conducting meetings and trainings; worker representation and professional development; and, other campaign-related activities. Please note that this position requires a mix of remote & in-person work, and occasionally may require brief travel and/or weekend work.

Qualifications: We are seeking a candidate that has labor organizing experience, preferably in higher education or a similar field. The ideal candidate will also possess strong communication skills, experience working in teams, and comfort in designing & directing their own work.

Salary Range: $65,000; Applicants with extraordinary experience may be considered for a higher starting salary.
