Position Overview:
The Human Resources Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resources (HR) department, which supports 250 employees across the Resilient Strategies network of 60+ partner organizations. The HR Director is responsible for ensuring legal compliance as well as implementation and maintenance of RS Policies across the RS network. The successful candidate will be someone who is experienced in Human Resources at the management level, and is invested in HR that is aligned with social justice values. The Director of Human Resources reports directly to The Operations Director.

Roles and Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Supervision and Team Management (15%)

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the HR/Admin department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the HR/Admin department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Provides coaching as needed to network partners navigating HR issues.
  • Supervises HR team staff

Human Resources (75%)

  • Supports RS Network Project Directors to develop their individual HR policies including unique policies, stipends, organizational management culture, leaves and wage packages, while maintaining the needs of the Network as a whole.
  • Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the RS network’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs and varied policies for the RS network including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; hiring and performance management and occupational health and safety.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to RS network partners.
  • Oversees all HRIS and HR supportive platform technology to ensure efficient work for the team.
  • Oversees and updates fringe benefit packages for the organization.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

  • Monitors HR systems and processes for efficiency and leads the team in analyzing and improving our systems for scale
  • Drafts and distributes statistical reports, analyses, and exhibits to organization/partners and when required, to regulatory and government agencies.
  • Maintains the RS administrative policies and procedures manual.
  • Ensures the organizations compliance with applicable health, building, zoning, and safety licensing and certification requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS management systems.
  • System and Process thinking, able to help scale the organization as needed.
  • At least five years of human resource experience at a management level required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
This position will work out of Oakland; Hybrid work schedule of 2 days in-person / 3 days work from home; open to remote placement for folks who can travel to the bay area regularly (4 times per year). Must be able to work on a computer including sitting at a desk for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation; manual dexterity to operate a keyboard; able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in-person and be understood by others; able to hear and understand speech, including on the phone; able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds, etc.

Salary and Benefits: This position is full-time and exempt, and has an estimated annual salary of $73,500 - $94,500. We offer a competitive health benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, and a generous paid time off schedule.
