Job Title: Early Childhood Special Education Instructor
Salary Range: $50.00 – $60.00 per hour
Location: New York, NY
Position/Title Summary
This is a grant-funded position that requires training of all staff at early childhood education Day Care or Head Start centers on the basics of supporting and communicating with children with disabilities and their families. The instructor should have the following skills including but not limited to: Teaching adults; ability to teach class in-person or virtually; ability to develop a curriculum, which targets specific skills and concepts; create lesson plans, assessments and reports applicable to subject matter; record and maintain student attendance and records; and provide individual student evaluation at the completion of the course/program.
Qualifications
Two or more years of experience in the following areas or comparable experience:
- Understanding Child Development B-5
- B-5 special education process
- Special education classroom types B-5
- Understanding behavior as communication
- Form and function of behavior
- How to recognize a spectrum of expressive communication and support receptive communication for Children with Disabilities (CwD)
- IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan) /IEP (Individualized Education Program) 101
- Understanding IEPs
- Interpreting the IEP to the classroom
- Adapting curriculum for CwD
- Progress monitoring for IEP goals
- A basic understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
- How to have challenging conversations with families.
- Travel to off-site locations may be required.
Requirements & Preferred Skills
Applicants must possess a master’s degree and have a minimum of two years of experience working in adult education and/or a combination in early childhood education, special education or instruction related experience in New York State. Certification as a teacher in New York State with an additional certification in special early education is preferred. Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge of computerized adult learning software programs. Experience using learning management systems (LMS) is a plus. Technical expertise with Microsoft. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Applicants must be available on November 5, 2024 and June 6, 2025 for in person training events. There will be other dates scheduled for training that will be confirmed during the 2024- 2025 school year that are in the process of being confirmed that the applicant will need to be available.
