The Union has approximately 425 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 175,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in 11 states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has 2 million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
We currently have an opening for a Welcome Center Representative (WCR) to work in our walk-in Member Center in Manhattan. WCRs are the first point of contact for members who come to the Center to address issues at their worksites. WCRs are an engaged and responsive team that meets with individual members daily, to hear, understand and triage each issue.

As the first point of contact for members seeking assistance with workplace issues, WCRs play a crucial role in providing exceptional service and support. The ideal candidate will be part of an engaged and responsive team, working closely with individual members to listen, understand, and effectively triage each concern. This position is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on workers' lives, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary liaison for members visiting the center, providing clear and empathetic guidance on workplace issues.
- Accurately enter relevant information into the complaint tracking system, following established protocols to ensure all workplace complaints are documented and handled appropriately.
- Respond to member inquiries regarding union contracts, offering accurate and comprehensive answers.
- Look up, track, and confirm the status of active grievances, keeping members informed of their progress.
- Process requests for leaves of absence promptly and efficiently, ensuring members receive the support they need during important life events.
- Answer union contract questions directly.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A demonstrated passion for advocating on behalf of workers and promoting equality, especially for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Exceptional listening and communication abilities are essential, as the WCR will engage with members presenting a wide variety of workplace issues.
- Strong writing and computer skills are required, as you will be using 32BJ databases and electronic grievance tracking systems to manage member cases.
- WCRs normally work regular business hours but must have the flexibility to work additional hours if necessary.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $64,182.04, depending on experience. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, sick and personal days.
