The Georgia Federation of Teachers, a local affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), AFL-CIO is an exciting labor organization providing strong and professional representation and community interaction for school employees in the Metro Atlanta area school districts focused on giving K-12 children every opportunity to be successful.
Job Description: A Field Organizer will be responsible for a variety of aspects of a campaign including building relationships with the workforce, recruiting, one-on-one member and non-member meetings, and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists. The organizer will assist in executing organizing plans and reaching benchmarks with a focus on membership building, steward and building representative growth & engagement.
Organizer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and mobilize workers
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisors to discuss progress and plan activities
- Identification of and development of new workplace leaders to participate in organizing activities
- One-on-one communication with members and potential members outside the workplace through site visits, home visits, phone calls, meetings, and web-based conversations.
- Take direction on daily and weekly activities to grow membership and accomplish the union vision
- Maintaining and entering assessments and relative data regularly
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate and work respectfully and comfortably with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work irregular hours and days when needed (not always a 9-5 endeavor)
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to multi-task, work efficiently, be well organized and reliable
- Ability to learn quickly and grow into greater responsibility
- Ability to receive and implement feedback
- Ability to work creatively, make and follow through on a work plan
- Dedication to social and economic justice and worker rights
Requirements:
- Reliable and insured vehicle/auto
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable cell phone and plan
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience or training as an organizer is a plus

Use of a computer keyboard. Must be in good physical condition. Sitting/standing for long periods and ability to travel by various means, e.g., train, plane, automobile. Salary with Benefits:
Starts at $45,000/year, 2 weeks paid vacation, mileage reimbursement, health insurance reimbursement, performance bonuses
