Mobilization Coordinator
Based in Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County, CA
The Central Coast Labor Council, AFL-CIO seeks a Mobilization Coordinator. The Central Coast Labor Council encompasses Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. The position is based in Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County but requires some travel throughout the region. We seek a flexible and talented organizer who can motivate union leaders, staff and volunteers. The position requires an individual that can develop programs and broaden involvement that will increase and solidify the labor movement’s political, legislative and organizing strengths.
The Mobilization Coordinator will work with local unions, community partners, the California Labor Federation and the AFL-CIO to build and maximize the growth of the labor movement through recruitment, training, strategic planning and internal capacity building.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with local union leadership to develop a plan to build and increase political involvement and power
- Growing the CLC by recruiting new affiliates and cultivating relationships with current affiliates
- Recruiting, developing and training activists, members and leaders
- Representing the CLC at internal and external meetings as necessary
- Working with Council Leaders and Union leaders to develop and implement programs, such as:
- Local campaigns for statewide, local candidates and ballot initiatives
- Local union mobilization/volunteer recruitment plans for campaigns
- Affiliation
- Worksite education trainings and programs
- Organizing campaigns
- Developing local legislative action for in-district lobbying of state legislators
- Developing programs with accountability and transparency
- Create and execute a communications plan including utilizing local media and social media to expand the CLC’s reach and promote the work of our members and affiliates
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- Grassroots member-to-member political, organizing and mobilizing experience
- Knowledge of and commitment to the labor movement
- Experience with training, planning, campaign development and implementation
- Involvement in coalition building
- Must be computer literate
- Strong multi-tasking capability, have initiative and drive, and be able to work independently
- Willingness and capacity to work extended hours and weekends

This position is full-time and includes paid vacation, competitive benefits and a salary that may vary based on experience. Starting salary range is $55,000 – $65,000.
