The Office of the General Counsel of Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ, a New York City-based union, is hiring an Associate General Counsel.

Local 32BJ is a progressive and dynamic labor organization representing 175,000 property service workers, including janitors, apartment building workers, security officers, airport workers, and food service workers, primarily on the eastern seaboard. As an Associate General Counsel, you will be expected to handle a wide range of matters relating to new organizing, the advancement of workers’ rights, legislative advocacy, and the representation of Union members. You will represent the Union in federal and state court, and before the National Labor Relations Board and other administrative agencies. You will also present cases to arbitrators and assist with contract negotiations. You will also advise Union officers and staff on internal Union administration, traditional labor law, and some benefit fund matters.

Applicants should have at least 5 years of relevant experience, excellent research and writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights. Applicants must be willing and available to travel. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. This position has a salary range of approximately $116,000 to $174,000, depending on years of experience, and comes with excellent benefits, including employer-paid health, dental and vison plans for full-time employees and their qualified dependents, a pension plan, and generous paid time off.
