Business Representative

Actors' Equity is a national labor union of professional actors and stage managers working in live theatre, founded for the purpose of negotiating strong agreements that protect the wages, hours and working conditions of its members; enforcing those agreements; organizing new work opportunities for members and pursuing appropriate legislation on matters affecting their profession. We represent the belief that the art of theatre is an essential cultural and economic component of our society. We are hiring a Business Representative for Disneyland. This is a hybrid position based in the Anaheim area.  Works hours are 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Evening and Weekend work hours may be required at times, with the ability to flex your schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent Actors’ Equity at meetings with actively working members.
  • Educate and engage members on issues of importance and gather information, questions, and concerns from members and, depending on the matter, inform the appropriate Equity staff to address.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities in the assigned areas for expanding Equity’s strategic interests in consultation with appropriate Equity staff such as Business Representatives, Diversity & Inclusion and Organizing teams. This includes identifying potential member leaders, building connections with partner organizations, and staying informed on industry-related issues.
  • Enforce safe and sanitary rules in agreement. This includes viewing shows, conducting set, performance area, and theater walks, and making safe and sanitary determinations.
  • Evaluates risks in emergencies related to safe and sanitary conditions and provides resolutions to members, employers, and Equity staff.
  • Make risk and set move determinations for performances and parades. This will include viewing shows in-person.
  • Inspect performance, rehearsal, and audition spaces as needed to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Work to minimize or eliminate risks as much as possible and make performance-related determinations within the Union's jurisdiction areas assigned for collective bargaining. This includes negotiating contracts under a supervisor's guidance and processing modification requests and appeals.
  • Collaborate to manage the enforcement of safe and sanitary and show determinations within collective bargaining agreement,
  • Address inquiries from employer and members about Equity and contractual issues related to safety, sanitation, and show determinations.
  • Assist members with urgent workplace issues, which may include emergency hotline coverage, as assigned.     
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Two (2) years directly related experience of onsite fieldwork is highly preferred.
  • Industry knowledge, including technical theater, first aid, ventilation systems, familiarity with federal, state, and local laws applicable to theatrical operations.
  • Must be detail-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven setting.
  • Must work proactively, independently, as well as collaboratively with colleagues on various projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the capacity to effectively engage with individuals from diverse cultural and background settings.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with proficient presentation abilities are necessary.
  • Negotiating skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to the workplace and with such frequency as Equity determines if it is necessary or desirable to meet its organizational and member needs. Working in the evening and/or on a weekend may be necessary.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with Microsoft CRM preferred.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary: $1280 per week.
