In support of these goals, the Legal Team is seeking a candidate who can play a key role supporting the legal work of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.

General Duties:

  • Assist in drafting and reviewing, pleadings, subpoenas, legal memoranda and correspondence and ensuring that filings are accurate, properly formatted and filed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with case management, including the collection, review and production of documents, and maintain electronic databases, including CaseMap.
  • Organize and prepare documents, exhibits, and other materials for use in hearings or trials.
  • Assist on appeals, including assembling the record and conducting fact and legal cite checking.
  • Correspond and communicate with members, union staff, attorneys, arbitrators, court staff and government agencies as directed.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize work for several different attorneys and officers.
  • Support and assist in the creation of management policies related to labor relations, personnel, and bargaining strategy.
  • Assist and act in a confidential capacity to attorneys and senior staff who formulate, determine, and effectuate management policies regarding staff, personnel and labor relations, with administrative support.
  • Organize information related to the development of union management positions regarding bargaining and personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned, including notetaking.


  • Two or more years of clerical experience in a legal setting, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Ability to assemble data, ability to effectively meet and work with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures, ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Strong analytical skills (writing skills tested)
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, prioritize deadlines, and handle confidential issues and materials
  • Assist and act in a confidential capacity to the Union officers, the Union’s general counsel and other management staff regarding personnel and labor relations.
  • Commitment to justice for working people
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and a working automobile required
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience

Salary range $72,000 with starting rate dependent on experience. This position is a full-time position. Benefits include fully paid employer healthcare, defined benefit pension and 401k, and vacation and sick leave.
