The Minnesota Nurses Association, a worker-centered power organization who stands strong for nurses, patients, and quality healthcare. We are 22,000 dedicated RNs and other healthcare professionals mostly in the private sector, in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Iowa, who promote the professional, economic, and personal well-being of nurses through collective action. MNA advocates for the health of the public to ensure access to quality, affordable health care by fighting back against corporate healthcare.

The Executive Director, with the approval of MNA President and the Board, oversees and manages the day to day as well as the long term operations and strategies of MNA.  

This includes:

  • Managing, developing and advising staff, (6 direct reports, overall staff of about 78, 60% represented by independent staff union);
  • Insuring that MNA’ s many collective bargaining agreements, private and public sector, are enforced and negotiated successfully;
  • Advising and supporting the President and the Board;
  • Building member power and growing the membership:
  • Oversees Metro contract negotiations and other campaigns;
  • Championing healthcare and nursing standards;
  • Represents MNA in coalition-efforts while supporting and building member-led lobbying initiatives;
  • Maintains the financial security of the organization (with a budget of $18M).


  • Demonstrated ability to carry out duties described above;
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) preferred in a field similar to or related to health care;
  • RN preferred - RN licensure in MN and state nurses association active membership as a member or as staff preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience with member-driven focused internal and external organizing programs, contract administration and enforcement utilizing worker power;
  • Successive experience leading large system-wide, comprehensive, worker-empowered and centered contract campaigns
  • Strong commitment to inclusive environments;
  • Ability to do some work-related travel.

Salary and Benefits

  • MNA offers an annual salary in the range of $175,000 - $190,000
  • There is an exceptional benefits package including employer paid medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
