Junior Assistant Bookkeeper
Accounting Department

Based in Upper Marlboro, MD

 

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is a trade union representing 600,000 active and retired members in the North American aerospace, defense, airline, manufacturing, transportation, woodworking, and other industries.

The IAM seeks to fill a Junior Assistant Bookkeeper, bargaining unit position in the Headquarters Accounting Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Daily deposits of checks/electronic receipts.
  2. Processing CAS reconciliations.
  3. Reconciling general ledger accounts.
  4. Preparing various spreadsheets
  5. Working with the accounting system software
  6. Typing emails, letters, memos, and other correspondence
  7. Answering general accounting department phone calls
  8. Handling of the daily mail including routing to the appropriate persons
  9. Scanning, faxing, copying, and sending overnight mail
  10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Accounting and/or sound general accounting knowledge based upon equivalent experience (2 + years) encompassing the areas defined with the job duties specified above.

Skills Required:

  1. Familiarity with general accounting principles
  2. Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with employees, lodge members, pensioners, etc.
  3. Ability to organize work volume and coordinate multiple functions at one time
  4. Ability to operate a calculator
  5. Microsoft Word
  6. Microsoft Excel
  7. Typing (at least 45 words per minute)

Selected candidates must pass an accounting aptitude test, an Excel test, and a Microsoft general skills test.

Salary: $33.32 per hour to start and comprehensive benefits package including employer-paid family health care, dental, eye, and a defined benefit pension.
