Communications Representative
Social Media Expert and Digital Campaign Strategist
Organizing Department

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is a trade union representing 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airline, manufacturing, transportation, woodworking, health care and other industries in North America.

The IAM Organizing Department is seeking a Communications Representative – Social Media Expert and Digital Campaign Strategist to serve as the IAM’s lead on its social media channels dedicated to organizing and to develop and implement digital campaign strategies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement multiple social media campaigns to assist in worker organizing efforts.
• Work closely with IAM staff and officers across the union, as well as allies outside the organization, to tie social media strategy into our larger organizing strategy.
• Serve as part of a team of organizers, providing support for flyers, website development, video production, and other communications aimed to assist worker organizing.
• Utilize analytics, such as Google Analytics or other programs to measure campaign progress.
• Assist with Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and geofencing campaigns effectively to help educate non-members and grow our audience.
• Work with field staff to develop and implement organizing campaign communications strategies, including escalation strategies, to grow membership.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Deep knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, including growth strategies and analytics.
• Excellent critical thinking, time-management, editorial judgment and creativity.
• Experience training others on social media best practices.
• Experience writing for a variety of purposes for an organization.
• Prior experience working in, or knowledge of, the labor movement.
• Preferred experience with use of Action Network or similar platforms for mass email programs.
• Previous experience with website content management is a plus.
• Graphic design experience and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related field and/or at least three years’ experience in a similar role at a labor or progressive organization.

This is a bargaining unit position that includes a generous, comprehensive benefit package including employer paid family health care and defined benefit pension.

Must have ability to travel on a regular basis, as needed, and for extended periods of time, including on weekends. This is not a remote-work position.
