The Virginia Education Association (VEA) is seeking applicants for the position of Organizing Specialist. VEA is a statewide community of almost 40,000 teachers and school support professionals working for the betterment of public education in the Commonwealth. Position and Area Description:
The primary focus of the organizing specialist position will be facilitating strategic planning, targeting, and training, recruitment and retention of members with locals in Hampton Roads, with the flexibility to travel throughout the state where campaigns are taking place..
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of related work experience.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, database management and data analysis.
- Demonstrated membership organizing skills.
- Successful work experience in public schools or associations advocating. for public schools preferred.
- Highly developed and effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated positive collaborative working relationships.
- Experience in developing and delivering training to adults.
- Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Core Job Functions:
- Assist member leaders in targeted locals with the creation and implementation of membership recruitment plans and ensuring accountability for those plans.
- Promote member activism around identified local association goals.
- Provide support and advice in conjunction with member leaders and UniServ Directors.
- Provide training in one-on-one relational engagement.
- Develop a culture for using data and systems for recording data and analyzing and acting on data acquired from these engagements.
- Assist members in recruitment and retention of new members.
- Provide training support in targeted locals to sustain membership recruitment, engagement, and activism around relational and issue organizing campaigns.
- Identify and develop potential new activists.
- Assist member leaders with the creation of enhanced local infrastructure.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a professional staff position covered by the VEA/VPSA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Effective September 1, 2023, the VEA/Staff CBA has a salary range of $80,342 – $111,900 for 2023-2026. The contract also includes an excellent fringe benefits package
