The Carolina Federation is seeking a values-aligned full-time Senior Development Manager to cultivate, identify, track, and support the financial resource development of the organization to build political power across North Carolina.

About the Role
The Senior Development Manager will be instrumental in the organization’s continued growth, sustainability, and opportunity for impact. As a key member of the Carolina Federation’s fundraising team, the Senior Development Manager will be responsible for managing fundraising in the organization, working closely with director and executive level leadership and key external-facing staff. The skills and commitments that will allow someone to succeed in the role include someone who:

  • Is excited to help grow and sustain the financial resources for a dynamic political organization across the state of North Carolina
  • Has deep and diverse experience in fundraising across different types of individuals, funding structures, and political moments/movements
  • Has a strong desire to grow and learn in the role with an opportunity to be mentored, trained and promoted into a permanent Development Director role for the organization, within two years of starting in employment.

Specifically, the Senior Development Manager will be responsible for executing and managing the development of the overall fundraising strategy. This includes:

Prospecting & Managing Donor Relationships:

  • Maintaining regular correspondence with donors and donor prospects, providing updates and identifying opportunities to deepen relationships & funding
  • Attending and participating in fundraising meetings with institutional and individual donors
  • Attending, presenting, and participating in philanthropic and social movement conferences and meetings to assist in organizational fundraising
  • Identifying new donors and grant opportunities
  • Leading donor research on potential donors and institutions

Grant Writing and Grant Management:

  • Drafting grant proposal frameworks and grant narratives
  • Drafting grant reports with special attention to the audience
  • Identifying and tracking RFP processes that Carolina Federation aligns with/qualifies for
  • Generating donor communications for external use with institutional and individual donors

Fundraising Planning:

  • Alongside director level leadership, co-developing and generating an annual fundraising plan with clear goals, benchmarks, and processes
  • Alongside director level leadership, co-leading fundraising team and partner meetings with a foundation in values that supports partners and speaks in an authentic voice
  • Providing leadership to the development team, ensuring a healthy fundraising team culture

Data Management and Tracking:

  • Using new and existing systems to update, track, and maintain contact information for institutional and individual donors
  • Using data to identify when donors have lapsed and opportunities to deepen or reignite engagement with donors

Qualifications, Technical Skills and Past Experience:

  • At least five years' experience in prospecting, cultivating, and managing relationships with both institutional and individual donors or comparable experience in grassroots organizing/power building
  • At least five years' experience working in development or fundraising spaces and developing/using fundraising plans to secure resources or comparable experience in building organizing plans and strategy to accomplish campaign plans
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills to understand a diverse set of donors and their needs
  • Experience with public speaking and/or attending and presenting at philanthropic and social movement conferences to advance organizational fundraising goals
  • Proven critical writing skills with the ability to craft compelling proposal frameworks, grant narratives, grant reports, and promotional materials
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in data tracking and written materials
  • Demonstrated success in understanding and building tailored communications or fundraising content for specific audiences while upholding organizational values.
  • Proficient in using data systems to update, track, and maintain contact information for both institutional and individual donors

Benefits and Compensation:
This is a permanent, full-time, exempt, management-level position. The salary range is $63,815 to $77,993 annually, based on experience. Comprehensive benefits including healthcare (medical, dental, and vision; employer pays 100% of the premium), employer-guaranteed retirement contribution, generous holidays as well as flexible paid time off, life insurance, short and long-term disability, a $700 technology allowance for new employees, and paid parental leave benefits.

Location:
This position must be based in North Carolina, with a strong preference for the Triangle or the Triad. The position requires regular in-person meetings at office locations in the Triad and Triangle. The position will require some travel out of the state to conferences and fundraising events and meetings.
