The Chicago Federation of Musicians is an historic institution that upholds the legacy and future of musical excellence in the Chicago region. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is an essential member of the CFM staff, reporting directly to the President. This role is vital in supporting brand representation and assisting in the orchestration of marketing, public relations, advertising, and promotional strategies for the federation.


  • Oversee, administer, and enhance the Chicago Federation of Musicians' website
  • Facilitate content creation and scheduling for social media channels
  • Create and execute monthly members e-newsletter
  • Editor of Intermezzo publication (6x per year) knowledge of InDesign preferred
  • Manage media relations tasks: crafting press releases, sustaining a digital news archive, and steering strategic communication campaigns
  • Provide support for events, both virtual and in-person
  • Engage in photography and videography tasks, including editing and coordinating with external vendors
  • Execute market research and provide estimates

Brand Management and Graphic Design

  • Comprehend and implement Chicago Federation of Musicians brand guidelines
  • Design and produce promotional materials adhering to brand standards, leveraging tools such as Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite


  • Offer support for Federation email communications in terms of content, design, and layout
  • Write various types of copy as needed

Digital Strategy

  • Aid in social media management and expansion of reach to new platforms
  • Platform currently under supervision: Facebook
  • Platforms to be developed:
    • LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube (all under Chicago Federation of Musicians)
  • Manage content and video categorization on the Federation's YouTube channel

A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, music or a related field is preferable.

Entry-level position, though 2 years of relevant experience is ideal.

20 hours per week, partially remote, salary to be negotiated


  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, with the capability to prioritize in high-pressure situations
  • A creative and proactive mindset
  • Professional demeanor with excellent time management capabilities
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and design for various media
  • Competence in managing social media and website content, with a grasp of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Google Analytics. Knowledge of HTML is a bonus.
  • Prior event management and organizational experience is a plus
  • Strong commitment to community-focused programs and services
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective professional relationships
  • Aptitude for working under pressure, adapting to change, and problem-solving


  • Primarily involves sitting and using standard office equipment. Walking and occasional travel by car may be necessary.


  • Typically based in a climate-controlled office setting
  • Remote work partially
  • Offsite travels for official duties may occasionally be required
