The International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 IATSE is the largest camera and publicist union in the world with over 9,000 members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. We are a National Local of IATSE (the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees. Applications are now being accepted for the exempt, confidential position of Assistant Director of our Eastern Region. The regional office is in New York, NY.
SALARY RANGE: $118,178 to $157,571 year, depending on experience.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the National Executive Director and Eastern Region Director, this position is responsible for the supervision of business representatives. Contract administration and enforcement, clear recognition of contract violations, handling grievances, developing leaders, recruiting new members. Organizing political campaigns and negotiating union contracts. Also responsible for organizing new workers interested in union representation and/or internal organizing and bargaining support campaigns.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies, recruits and develop member leaders, stewards.
- Signs up non-members on authorization cards.
- Gathers information necessary for the filing of grievances and tracks all grievances in assigned productions/areas to make sure time limits are met and grievances are handled effectively.
- Assists in negotiations by assisting at the table, soliciting member feedback, working with Contract Action Teams, and other support roles.
- Assists in carrying out communication of research findings aimed at impacting key policy issues.
- Visit sets on a weekly basis with the goal of visiting union productions a least once.
- Visit sets several times for longer term productions.
- Timely communicate strategically important claims, practices, or incidents to the Regional Director.
- Respond to all member inquiries within 24 hours.
- Write all correspondence in a thoughtful and competent fashion.
- Keep desk and files well organized and available.
- Treat elected leaders, members, and coworkers with respect.
- Work from the office during regular business hours
- Perform other related job duties, activities, or projects as assigned.
- Plan and present at meetings, trainings, and other events
- Investigate and resolve or file grievances/claims with prompt and professional attention.
- Be familiar with and resourceful regarding Local 600 contracts, constitution, and bylaws.
- Provide independent staff support for Committees and Working Groups as assigned.
- Develop and implement internal and external campaigns.
- Run large group meetings.
- Negotiate settlement agreements.
- Participate on bargaining teams or negotiate agreements.
- Substitute for the Regional Director when on vacation or other leave
- Onboard new employees
- Assist on staff evaluations.
- Support Regional Director at major meetings where a partner is needed.
- Participating in Regional Directors Team Meetings
- Assist staff with unusually complicated work.
- Approve leaves for staff.
- Review grievances before they are filed.
- Assist in preparation for local, regional, and national meetings.
- Assist the Regional Director in supervising regional office Guild employees.
- Assist the Regional Director in managing regional office(s) financial and administrative affairs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma with a minimum of seven years of experience in the labor movement.
- Experience in union organizing and representation.
- Experience in negotiating contracts in the film and entertainment industry required.
- Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, organizational skills, both analytical problems solving, and the ability to work with confidential documents.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, achieve deadlines under pressure and proven ability to perform the duties of the position.
PREFERRED TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited college. Local 600 seeks to maintain a staff which is representative of a wide variety of backgrounds to truly reflect our members' interests and concerns. Experience in negotiating contracts in the film and entertainment industry is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to those with rank-and-file experience.
LICENSE & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid Driver’s License to carry out job-related essential functions. Work is performed in a variety of employment settings. Driving, travel, temporary assignments, irregular and extended work hours are required.
