The Communications Specialist will support SEIU Texas through producing virtual and print materials, social media, text outreach, email campaigns, identifying and training spokespeople, and other communications functions as required. This position reports to the Deputy Communications Director. This is an in-person position based in Houston, Texas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design creative communications campaigns to spread the message of the SEIU of Texas through visual storytelling with print and digital materials.
- Engages members and the public through social media campaigns.
- Helps identify and train members to serve as spokespeople.
- Implements appropriate visuals and overall messaging for public events.
- Collaborates with Deputy Communications Director and other team members to ensure content aligns with overall message, strategy, style and voice.
- Advises communications approach and develops ideas to evolve and improve communications.
- Captures visuals for print and digital materials.
- Distributes content across all channels.
- Other forms of communications support as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience with or ability to learn design to spread a message through visual storytelling in print and digital formats.
- Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Familiarity with design technology including Canva, Photoshop and the Adobe suite.
- Excellent written, verbal and visual communications skills.
- Ability to coordinate on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to think strategically and participate effectively as part of a team.
- Dedication to improving the life of workers and a willingness to participate in a wide range of activities towards that objective.
- Driver’s license, cell phone, reliable automobile and auto insurance.
- Experience in a labor union, political campaign or nonprofit preferred.
- Spanish fluency is required.
