Primary duties include overseeing receivables, payables, and vendor relationships, coding and coordinating financial records with an outside accounting firm, assisting an outside auditor on the annual audit, fulfilling data-subscriber requests through Stripe and also through university or company portals, and assisting the executive director on budgeting and financial reports for funders.

The administrator also oversees payroll and benefits payments and orients new staff members on personnel policy and related matters. They administer email, software, and data storage systems, and ensure staff has necessary technology and equipment (including troubleshooting problems with Microsoft 365, and state employment portals).

The administrator, working with a website consultant and Stripe, serves as the point on database subscriptions and billing on licensing agreements.

The administrator is responsible for standardizing operations, using best practices from human resources, security, and related fields.

GJF promotes accountability in economic development incentives with studies, databases, blogs, and technical assistance to grassroots groups, journalists and public officials nationwide.

Applicants must have:

  • An established proficiency in basic non-profit 501(c)(3) records and accounting practices;
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting software;
  • Familiarity with Stripe or other customer-facing payment platforms and experience handling customer service requests;
  • Familiarity with state employment portals – GJF staff are currently located in seven states and may be hired in others;

  • Knowledge of tax policy and/or economic development and/or smart growth and/or organized labor and/or community organizing issues and constituencies.
  • A self-starter who can make suggestions about improving security, file-sharing and other internal processes and procedures.

This is an opportunity for rewarding work at a small, highly productive resource center. Though this is mostly a remote job, the administrator does need to travel to Washington DC at least two, three, or four times per month.

Compensation is hourly, between $32 and $40 per hour, commensurate with experience, and includes apportioned benefits including healthcare, employer retirement contributions in a 403B plan, and vacation.
