Assistant to the Controller

The Writers Guild of America, East, AFL-CIO (WGAE) is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news, and online media. The Guild negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members; conducts programs, seminars, and events on issues of interest to writers; and presents writers’ views to various bodies of government.

Primary functions and responsibilities:

  • Utilize a general accounting background encompassing Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), payroll, and billing.
  • Manage AR-related tasks, including reconciliation, journal entries, daily revenue download, and report daily cash.
  • Assist with payroll for 40 employees on both a monthly and bi-weekly basis.
  • Assist with the month-end closing process.
  • Managing vendor files and employee HR files


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent business experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Labor Union experience a plus
  • Desirable skills include data analysis, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Experience with online accounting software, and finance automation tools.
  • Advance use of Excel.
  • Tech-savvy profile highly appreciated.
  • Autonomy and strong communication skills.

Reports to: Controller

Salary and Benefits
There is a competitive and comprehensive benefits package—salary based on a range of $60,000 - $70,000. Excellent benefits including but are not limited to employer-paid health insurance and a defined benefit pension plan.

Job Duties:

  • Entering invoices in Business Central
  • Reconciliation of all monthly expenses
  • Depositing checks at Citibank
  • Sending out daily cash report
  • Gathering all invoices for bi-weekly pay runs to be reviewed by the Controller.
  • Assisting Controller in month-end process, LM2 filing, and year-end audits
  • Maintaining and organizing all vendor files
  • Creating labeling and filing all employee folders
  • Assisting the Controller in employee onboarding process
  • Download daily revenue reports from Zeus
