Political Organizer
Full Time

Reports to: Political Director.
Location: Las Vegas, NV.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1107 is the largest healthcare union in Nevada, representing public and private sector workers. We are part of SEIU International, one of the fastest-growing unions in the country. Position Summary:
The role of the SEIU 1107 Political Organizer is to educate, train, and organize members around SEIU 1107’s political work. The Political Organizer will engage with members to participate in political campaigns and the Committee On Political Education (COPE), and will identify and develop member political leaders.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Identify, organize, and mobilize members to union political activities.
  • Train and Manage Member-to-member contact efforts, such as phonebanks, canvasses, and texting campaigns.
  • Increase COPE participation by union members in the workplace by identifying, recruiting, developing, mentoring, motivating, and mobilizing leaders, in strategic and sustained meaningful ways.
  • Develop and cultivate members of the Political Organizing Committee (POC) in building COPE membership and delivering updates on COPE victories.
  • Engage in one-to-one conversations, and assessments of volunteers in group meetings, phone calls, and home visits.
  • Plan and carry out fundraisers, phonebanks, and other fundraising events.
  • Facilitate electoral, GOTV, and voter registration activities.
  • Support union participation in political and community-based events as assigned.
  • Track increased member participation using union databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Ability to hit metric-based goals on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire volunteers to develop into leaders and participate in key voter engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of organizing for power, a commitment to social justice, and providing the organizational support needed for success.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to providing quality volunteer experience including the ability to establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and deliver on short-term and long-term organizing plans, volunteer development, and capacity-building goals.
  • High level of organization, record keeping, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior union, campaign, or volunteer experience.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Experience fundraising for non-profits, campaigns, or other related experience.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and standard business software.
  • Knowledge of campaign software, including VAN, phone banking, and text banking software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in the labor movement or with a 501 (c) 3 or 501 (c) 4 is preferred.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $74,012.21 and commensurate with experience. This position includes 100% employer-paid health insurance, pension, life insurance, AD&D, Long-Term Disability, and car allowance.
