Today, CWA Local 9009 with over 1400 members throughout the United States and Canada, is strong and growing with a visionary goal of organizing every Google full- and part- time workers, Temporary Workers, Contractors, and Vendors (TVC’s.). Job Description:
CWA Local 9009 is seeking a dynamic, union professional and strategic thinker to serve as Organizing Supervisor. This position is an exciting challenge for a highly skilled organizer and strategist interested in building member power for workers employed by the largest employer in the world.
The Organizing Supervisor, an exempt, management position, reports to the Organizing Director and is responsible for developing and winning strategic campaigns and programs while building organization and technical infrastructures. The Organizing Supervisor manages staff assigned to work with workers who are interested in joining the union, expanding membership, and seeking recognition; and, in the future, working with and on behalf of members who have won recognition and have a contract or are in the process of bargaining a contract. This position is a hybrid role with a preference for being based near a concentration of Alphabet workers and requires extensive travel.
Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of the Organizing Director, and working with an elected Board of Directors, execute best campaign practices for engaging and activating member to grow membership, build organization and technical infrastructures.
- In coordination with the Organizing Director, plan, implement and evaluate strategic pre-majority organizing campaigns.
- Manage campaign field program and supervise staff.
- Identify, build relationships and engage strategic members to ensure progress toward programmatic and campaign goals.
- Train and develop staff and member leaders.
- Advise and oversee staffing of organizing committees and working groups on strategic issues.
- Strategize with staff and member leaders to develop and implement collective responses to work-related issues.
- Working with the Organizing Director, to handle personnel issues, including recommendations for hire/fire, discipline, performance evaluations, etc.
- Provide insight, analysis and regular reports to the Organizing Director and Leadership about campaigns and member issues.
Requirements:
- At least 7-10 years relevant professional organizing experience representing, organizing, and training members for activism and leadership, with limited oversight. Diverse experience organizing a wide variety of campaigns preferred.
- Successful experience leading internal organizing campaigns.
- Experience supervising organizers and other staff.
- Knowledge of labor law, as related to recruitment.
- Exceptional social, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think and plan strategically, exercise superior discretion and independent judgment.
- Competency with data bases and electronic platforms.
- Ability to travel extensively with preference for being based near concentrations of Alphabet Workers.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured automobile for business use.
- Ability to work long, irregular hours.
Salary/Benefits:
- The salary range for this position is $102,000-$130,000, based on experience.
