Press Coordinator

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is the largest union representing behind-the-scenes workers in all facets of the entertainment industry in the United States and Canada.
IATSE is seeking an experienced and skilled Press Coordinator to join our Communications Department in our International Office in Los Angeles, California. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategic media relations campaigns to promote IATSE's initiatives and priorities. This position reports to the Director of Communications and maintains regular contact with the various departments (Motion Picture & Television Production, Stagecraft, Broadcast, Tradeshow, Education & Training, Political / Legislative, and Canadian Affairs), committees, and local unions.
Description of Duties (including but not limited to)
- Develop and implement strategic media relations campaigns to promote IATSE's campaigns, initiatives, and priorities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries
- Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials
- Pitch stories to reporters, producers, and editors to secure favorable coverage for IATSE
- Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, and other media influencers
- Monitor relevant media coverage and provide daily newsletter/reports to IATSE leadership
- Prepare IATSE spokespeople including International and Local Union leadership, as well as rank-and-file members for interviews and public appearances
- Execute publication of content to official website and official social media accounts;
- Research and produce informative and compelling content;
- Provide communications assistance and resources to Local unions when needed;
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Qualifications
Experience & Education Requirements:
- A minimum of 4 years’ relevant work experience in campaign / labor communications, public relations, labor or community organizing, journalism or other related field;
- Previous experience in labor other advocacy organizations, and/or a bachelors’ degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related subject.
- Experience with social media and digital communications, including live-streaming and social media content creation
- Labor or other social justice work experience strongly preferred; demonstrated commitment to these values required
Skills Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to write compelling press releases, talking points, and other materials
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- High degree of computer literacy and knowledge of social media
- Self-starter, can work independently and remotely, set and reach individual goals, and handle a variety of personalities in collaborative environments
- Ability to travel, attend in-person events, work extended hours as needed
- Experience with Wordpress or other content management systems a plus
- Experience with social media and digital communications, including live-streaming and video content creation a plus
- Fluency or proficiency in French or Spanish a plus
Benefits
This position is salaried between $62,734.48 and $82,734.48 per year. We offer top-tier health and retirement benefits, generous personal and vacation paid time off.
The Press Secretary position operates on a flexible/hybrid schedule out of our Los Angeles Office. Additional in-person attendance may be required for certain events, campaigns, and meetings.
