OVERVIEW:
An External Organizer is responsible for a variety of aspects of an external organizing campaign including building relationships with workers, home/worksite visits, and working on campaigns to organize unions.
This position will be responsible for organizing behavior health, treatment industry, and social services workers.
Specific duties include but not limited to:
- Ability to build relationships with workers through 1:1s, home, and worksite visits and experience working directly with people specifically from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
- Developing campaign plans - strong project management skills (drafting and implementing)
- Multi-tasking and balancing multiple assignments/campaigns
- Understanding of basic labor law principles (PECBA, NLRB) including knowledge of anti union tactics
- Ability to speak in front of large groups, facilitation of meetings and trainings as well as curriculum development
- Ability to build and maintain positive work relationships and exercise good judgment
- Data driven skills and ability to track and report work
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Ability to use a computer, email, and databases
- Leadership and motivational skills. Identify, recruit, and develop leaders.
- Develops broad, representative organizing committees of worksite leaders and train them
- One-on-one visits, site visits, meetings, and other interaction with members and potential members.
- Enter assessments and other data collected in a database.
- Develops volunteer organizers and/or lost timers from within the AFSCME membership.
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisors to discuss progress and plan activities.
- Accepts and applies feedback and constructive criticism from the supervisor.
- Performs related work as required.
- In possession of an insured vehicle and valid driver’s license.

Salary range $5743- $9281 per month, healthcare, employer 401k contributions, long term disability, life insurance, and car stipend.
