Job Title: Administrative Assistant I (30-40 Hours per week)

Starting Rate: $19.35 Per Hour (*Related experience considered)
Location: South St. Paul Office
JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this position include; Updating content on our website and social media platforms, answering phones, proofreading, copying, filing, communication mailings along with data entry. This position requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. Applicants must be flexible and willing to work additional hours when needed. You will be responsible for:
- Updating content on our website and social media platforms
- Answer phones, assist members, greet visitors.
- Create/type/copy/mail/distribute all forms of correspondence (mail/email/text/phone/newsletter)/petitions/reports as requested by Local 284 staff.
- Proofread contracts.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies and promotional materials.
- Maintain historical files.
- Maintain website, Facebook and templates.
- Logistics for events, meetings and trainings.
What you will need to do the job:
- Proficiency in writing, word processing and communications.
- Technical knowledge of Word Press and social media platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Good human relations skills.
- Knowledge of labor rights and contract language and ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to communicate well in writing and orally.
- Ability to Post/use websites and social media platforms, computer, printer, scanner, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, postage machine.
- Proficiency with computers and applications including, but is not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Power Point, E-mail and Internet.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to respond to requests and/or make quick decisions.
- Exercises a high level of confidentiality in handling Union and member information.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.
- Ability to think and plan strategically.
- Ability to plan work independently.
- Requires extended periods of sitting.
- Frequent repetitive action on keyboard.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
- Requires some bending and stooping to reach file drawers.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, often including nights and weekends.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two or more years of office clerical experience preferred. Prior school district work experience and SEIU Local 284 union activism is helpful.
