Job Title: Organizing Fellow

Jobs with Justice San Francisco (JwJ SF) is a coalition of labor unions, worker centers and community groups. Together, we fight for the fair treatment of working people, organizing in local communities and workplaces. We believe in long-term multi-issue coalition building and grassroots base-building as the foundation for building a workers’ movement.

JwJ SF is working in collaboration with other northern California-based organizations on a long-term campaign targeting large corporate employers, whose workplace practices have significant impacts on both workers and the surrounding communities. We are seeking new Organizers who want to expand their skill set through hands-on worker organizing. This is an in-person, northern California-based position. While organizing experience is certainly welcome, this position is intended to be an on-ramp for new organizers interested in gaining experience.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Leading direct outreach to workers at the job site

  • Maintaining data tracking systems with regular input of new contacts and member participation into a database.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Identify, recruit and develop leaders
  • Build strong one-on-one relationships
  • Conduct broad and intensive outreach through home visits, phone calls, and site visits
  • Manage lists, assessments, charts and other campaign tools
  • Conduct individual and group meetings
  • Motivate individuals and groups of workers to take action
  • Plan and implement actions and events to support organizing efforts
  • Perform basic campaign research, including probing, list building, and worksite mapping
  • Facilitate meetings effectively

Job Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to growing the labor movement and expanding power for workers through democratic, rank-and-file-led organizing
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in community or labor organizing desirable
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, potentially nights or weekends
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Tagalog, Cantonese, or Mandarin) is a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Willingness to work an unconventional schedule, including night hours
  • Ability to work well with a team and motivate others to take action
