American Federation of Musicians, Local 802 has an opening for a Business Representative/Organizer working in our Theatre Department (Broadway). This position requires a flexible work schedule which may include evening and weekend assignments.

The qualified candidate must exhibit a high level of commitment to the labor movement and the mission of Local 802, have significant experience negotiating contracts as well as in organizing, be able to work well in a team environment, possess a working knowledge of labor law and possess excellent computer and communication skills – both written and verbal. Experience in and/or knowledge of the performing arts industry – especially theatre – is highly desirable.

Duties of the position are as follows:

  • Contract negotiations
  • Contract administration and enforcement
  • Explaining contract terms, concepts, benefits and obligations to members and potential members
  • Internal organizing, grievance handling and committee building
  • Assist in administrative and field work duties in the Theatre Department
  • Organize and chair meetings
  • Working closely with department supervisors and officers to achieve the goals of the union and servicing the needs of the membership

This is a full-time bargaining unit position, the employment terms of which are covered under an agreement with Local 802’s in-house union for its professional staff, the Organization of Union Representatives (O.U.R.).

Starting salary is $64,145.64. Benefits include a defined pension benefit plan, 401(k), health insurance, sick leave, personal days and vacation days.
