Position Description:
The Network Support Administrator I is responsible for providing organization-wide network support, assisting in the administration of the UFCW Network, and installing, configuring, and troubleshooting various components of the network. (For the purposes of this job description, the “Network” includes but is not limited to computer workstations, laptops, printers, network switches, servers, storage area networks, mobile devices, telecommunications equipment, network routers, applications software, and cabling).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs basic network troubleshooting to isolate common network problems.
- Performs a series of daily maintenance checks to ensure the network is functioning properly. Resolves any discovered conflicts where qualified, and reports the problem or resolution to the Coordinator of Technical Services.
- Diagnoses, documents, and resolves any network, equipment, or application problems reported by network users and remote users; provides follow-up assistance to the user, or forwards analysis of the problem to other staff members of Information Technology as needed.
- Assists in the configuration of computer workstation hardware and software, including, but not limited to desktops, laptops, telephones, wireless communication devices, printers, and associated peripherals. Deploys all desktops, laptops, telephones, wireless communication devices, printers and associated peripherals.
- Responds to questions users may have regarding access and use of all resources of the network. Also assists in user training and orientations.
- Assists with assigning rights and security to network groups and network resources; establishes new and modifies existing users, environments, and directory structures within the network directory.
- Assists in disseminating network and application information through both formal and informal education structures.
- Assists in developing application and operational solutions with other Information Technology personnel.
- Assists in the review, evaluation, and testing of future network applications as decided by the Coordinator of Technical Services. Researches and orders approved software and equipment for network users and Network Support.
- Maintains the security of UFCW operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains technical proficiency by participating in continuous learning.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time, in the UFCW’s discretion. UFCW employees function as a team and, occasionally, and on a temporary basis, employees may be required to perform tasks usually performed by others. This might occur if a team member is absent or unavailable to complete a project and the team is responsible for the deadline. Because employees are required to work as a team, you are required to step up and fill in for a team member who is absent or needs assistance from time to time.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or higher in Computer Science or related field preferred.
- A working understanding of TCP/IP network concepts and application compatibility is essential.
- At least three years’ experience working with current Windows desktop operating systems. A working understanding of Windows Servers and Active Directory. Required one-year hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with a diversified user community and ability to handle difficult situations in a timely and professional manner.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to comprehend vendor technical manuals.
- Ability to communicate with vendors in describing technical problems, and to document various solutions proficiently.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
- Ability to read, record, analyze and interpret statistical information from various sources, including CRT presentation.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts of the problem, and draw proper conclusions.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to respond, prioritize, and execute numerous tasks at once.
Working Conditions:
The work is performed in a normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Some travel required.
Physical Demands:
The position involves, but is not limited to, written and oral communications skills, use of computer keyboard, close vision, sitting for long periods, stooping, bending and reaching. Some light lifting required, 35 pounds or less.
