About This Role
SEIU 775 is one of the largest and most progressive labor unions in Washington State, representing 45,000 long-term care workers. With a membership that is overwhelmingly female and disproportionately women of color and immigrants, SEIU 775 has a long history of fighting for social and racial justice, from communicating with members in more than a dozen languages to working for immigration reform to supporting the Working Families Tax Credit, Initiative 940 and Referendum 88. This is a management position that will lead the union’s efforts to deepen our relationships with diverse communities and to engage our members and leaders in social and racial justice campaigns.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with union leadership and senior staff to develop and implement an overall strategy to engage the union and our members in racial and social justice campaigns.
- Manage the union’s efforts to engage and build and maintain collaborative relationships with key allies, including organizations and coalitions led by communities of color, immigrant communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, disability justice and others who have been historically marginalized and left behind.
- Lead the union’s engagement in racial and social justice advocacy campaigns, including participating in coalitions, engaging our members in campaigns, and direct lobbying.
- Work with our field leadership staff to develop and implement plans to engage member leaders in racial and social justice campaigns, and to recruit and develop new member leaders through these campaigns.
- Manage and coordinate the union’s engagement in SEIU member caucuses, including Afram (African-American caucus), API, and Latino member caucuses
- Work with our field and communications staff to develop racial equity trainings and materials for union members and leaders.
- Bring a racial equity focus to our political program, including working with field and communications staff to develop and implement plans register, engage, and mobilize our immigrant and BIPOC members.
- Support the union’s work to provide language justice and access to ensure members can participate in political, community and legislative events and action in their language of choice.
- Manage one or more staff working on race and social justice campaigns and language justice.
- Other duties/accountabilities as assigned.

- Fluency in a language other than English is desired.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least three years’ experience in political and/or advocacy work including coordinating rallies, lobby days, canvasses, phonebanks, volunteer trainings and/or other in-person and online campaign actions.

- Demonstrated commitment to race and social justice and experience applying a racial equity tool to policy and campaign planning
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work in partnership with diverse coalitions, communities and/or individuals.
- Experience managing people
- Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
- Willingness and ability to travel, including frequent travel throughout WA and other locations, including overnight travel and assignments.
- Regularly operate a computer, an office or cell phone, and other general office equipment.
- Occasionally walk from door to door for 3 hours at a time with rest and meal breaks
- Stand; walk; and sit for hours at a time.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Sometimes work irregular hours to prepare for and attend events and union activities.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can elevate during events and campaign activities.
- A regular work week can be 8 hours a day 5 days a week. Frequently job requirements exceed 8 hours a day.
- Occasionally, when we have major events to plan for, the Social Justice Campaigns Manager must be able to work every day for 2 weeks.

Compensation:
This position is full-time, exempt. This position is outside the CBA. Pay ranges from $96,675 – $110,483 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday and sick leave benefits, fully paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit during pandemic, and more.
