SEIU 775

Nursing Home Field Organizer

Based in Tacoma, WA

About SEIU 775
SEIU 775’s mission is to unite the strength of all caregivers, to create a better life for ourselves and those we care for, and to lead the way to a more just and equitable world. We represent more than 45,000 long-term care workers providing quality in-home care, nursing home care, and adult day health services in Washington State and Montana. We are a leader in the progressive community and take bold and aggressive approaches to politics and organizing.

About the role
The Organizer’s role is to develop the leadership and strength of membership within the assigned turf, coordinate representation of workers in contract campaigns and contract enforcement, and organize participation in a statewide communications and political program. Typical duties in a given month include making site visits to a dozen nursing homes, representing workers in disciplinary meetings with their employer, helping file grievances, assisting with contract negotiations, recruiting, and developing new member activists, mobilizing members to political or bargaining events, house calling workers during organizing drives and more.

Organizers in the Field Department mentor, coach, teach, and foster the talents of our members, who are nursing home workers. The goal of our union is to raise standards for the long-term care industry through an aggressive organizing plan and political engagement. Internal union organizers are on the front-line of building the strength of our membership through individual skills and leadership development, recruitment to events, and coaching and training opportunities. Previous experience in union organizing or representation is highly desirable.
