About This Role
The Research and Policy Analyst is part of a team that uses a broad range of research methods to inform strategy, shape campaigns, negotiate contracts, and develop local and state policy, and contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration, and transformation throughout the organization.
The analyst will conduct company, market, and industry research and analysis, develop policy, draft written work products, and give presentations to internal and external audiences. Research topics cover long-term care, the care economy, economic justice, racial, social and gender justice, and building worker power in the 21st century.
This is a fast paced, highly collaborative position at the center of some of the most creative and impactful work in the labor movement.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct research, provide analysis, prepare a variety of work products in support of programmatic goals (such as campaigns, legislation, pilots, etc.), with particular focus on the nursing home industry.
- Monitor, analyze, and maintain subject matter expert on the nursing home industry, including trends in ownership, financing, regulatory changes, and other topics impacting the workforce.
- Participate in and represent SEIU 775 on various internal and external workgroups.
- Develop and maintain relevant databases and targeting tools.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert on private and public corporate research.
- Follow and support the improvement of protocols for team and organization to ensure work products are accurate, relevant, meaningful, and aligned with organizational mission and values.
- Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, and internal stakeholders to design, test, and analyze initiatives.
- Work on union, organizing, and advocacy campaigns as needed.
- Contribute to the improvement of the team’s research practices and processes to recognize and redress the ways in which white supremacy has shaped both quantitative and quantitative research methods.
- Prepare and deliver written and visual presentations, reports, or memos for internal and external stakeholders with diverse background, education levels, and experience in order to communicate research analysis in a simple, concise, and interpretable manner.

Skills & Abilities:
- Highly organized, with strong attention to nuance and detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and working iteratively.
- Proven ability to conduct, interpret, and present quantitative and qualitative research and analysis in a manner that centers racial equity and lived experiences.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate to diverse audiences is a must.
- Ability and openness to receive and provide feedback in a constructive and clear manner.
- Ability to speak multiple languages a big plus
Desired Qualifications:
- 3 or more years’ experience conducting research, developing policy, or doing financial or industry analysis in a campaign, progressive non-profit, union, business, or an applied research setting.
- Strong commitment to progressive social and economic change, racial justice, and an understanding of how your work improves the lives of caregivers and all working people
- Comfort working 1:1, with peers, and in cross functional teams collaboratively, with respect, candor, empathy, and mission alignment.
- Sound judgement, discretion, and comfort working with a team and independently in a fast paced, often changing environment.
- Willingness to travel and to work long and irregular hours when needed to meet campaign demands.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The shift starts and end times may vary slightly based on operational needs. Must have flexibility in schedule during extended business hours. From time to time, the position may be expected to participate in Union activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and after-hours.

Compensation:
This position is full time, exempt. Salary and benefits set by collectively bargained contract; pay ranges from $65,500 – $78,060 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday and sick leave benefits, fully paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit during pandemic, and more.
