Apprentice Organizer
Fight for $15 and a Union Campaign

JOB TYPE: Full Time
REPORTS TO: Senior Lead Organizer and Coordinator
SUPERVISES: This position does not supervise staff.
SALARY: $22/Hour

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • To represent and assist the SEIU-NFFWU in organizing fast food workers and implementing organizing goals of the Campaign. This is a bargaining unit position. This is a bargaining unit position.
  • An Apprentice Organizer performs a wide range of duties, which may vary according to the needs of the overall program or a specific campaign. The primary function of an Apprentice Organizer is to identify, recruit and sign up prospective NFFWU members in the workplace and greater community. This includes engaging workers at or near their work place, areas of public transit, and in the community.

SEIU NFFWU is working to expand the movement and deepen the successful fights to raise employment standards and unite workers in organizing their union in the fast food industry through national, state and community campaigns.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates a commitment to fighting for racial, gender, and economic justice.
  2. Experience in community or labor organizing desired, but not required.
  3. Ability to develop, track and implement goals based on critical thinking about grassroots organizing strategy and tactics.
  4. Ability to work as part of a team, commitment to pitching in to help others.
  5. Experience working in an environment where diversity based on race, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation and physical ability is an important value.
  6. Bilingual speaking ability- English and Spanish, preferred.
  7. Effective oral and written communicator, values and fosters open communication, uses and understands the importance of active listening skills.
  8. Values self-improvement, able to accept praise and critical feedback and seeks evaluation.
  9. Experience with and commitment to working on racial justice issues and / or working in communities of color.
  10. Must possess a valid driver's license, have access to a working vehicle, and ability to drive 15 passenger van.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is nationwide. Work is generally performed from a field office setting or other location to complete the required assignments of the position. Long and extended hours and a minimal amount of overnight travel may be required.
