Coalition Senior Researcher

Full-Time | Remote – United States

 

The coalition seeks a Senior Researcher who can conduct corporate research and support the development of innovative and impactful strategies and tactics in support of local and national coalition campaigns on worker rights, economic and environmental justice.

Organizational Background
Athena is a groundbreaking nationwide coalition of 50+ organizations dedicated to defeating unchecked corporate power and advancing a democracy that represents us all. Our attention is focused squarely on Amazon, which exemplifies a cross-section of the harms and impacts of corporate power: an erosion of worker rights and protections, hollowing out of local economies, an expanding police state, and undermining of critical social and economic institutions and policy. We seek to build a stronger movement by building relationships, working in a principled way, and building collective capacity.

Our members are racial justice and worker organizations, think tanks and public policy advocacy organizations, and grassroots groups around the country -- and together we are building a popular movement to rein in corporate power and ensure that the rules of our economy are set by we the people, not by the biggest corporations in the world.

Senior Researcher
The coalition seeks a Senior Researcher who can conduct corporate research and support the development of innovative and impactful strategies and tactics in support of local and national coalition campaigns on worker rights, economic and environmental justice. corporate accountability, monopoly, and surveillance and privacy. The Senior Researcher will work with coalition staff and coalition members to prioritize research, draft reports, and engage in campaign strategy development.

The ideal candidate has experience in both corporate research and comprehensive campaigning.

Responsibilities
Campaign research:

  • Conduct corporate research to advance our campaign objectives and change public narrative, working closely with coalition partners and staff.
  • Conduct industry analysis.
  • Track and profile of key players and stakeholders.
  • Provide research support for campaign actions, press events, and testimony for public hearings.

Working with campaigns:

  • Serving as a partner to coalition campaigners in the development and execution of campaign strategy and tactics.
  • Supporting the development of short and long-term campaign plans.

Coalition Development:

  • Coordinate the research needs of coalition-wide efforts.
  • Convene and organize a coalition-wide working group to regularly advise, implement shared research strategy and to discuss different table’s needs, with an eye toward identifying overlaps and connections.
  • Serve as a resource for coalition members undertaking their own research.
  • Regularly share findings and provide research materials to members, leaders, and others.
  • Participate in regular coalition staff, leadership, and membership meetings.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of doing corporate accountability or comprehensive campaign research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice and worker or community leadership.
  • Strong technical research skills and ability to apply research to the development of strategic campaigns.
  • Familiarity with tech and/or retail industry players, trends, and dynamics.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the challenges faced by low-income communities of color.
  • Familiarity with earned media and digital strategies.
  • Ability to occasionally work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays, based on campaign needs and subject to comp/flex time.

  • Must be a creative self-starter, able to work independently and with limited oversight to accomplish agreed upon objectives and to evaluate results.
  • Dedication to challenge racial capitalism and build a powerful multiracial movement that can win material gains for working class and BIPOC people and shift the dynamics of power in our country.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of organizations and people.
  • Ability to work across teams and the coalition to help problem solve, triage competing priorities, and generate ideas that move policy and campaign objectives forward.

Compensation and Location
We offer a competitive starting salary between $80,000 – $100,000, based on experience, and generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, prescription coverage and a 401k. The position is remote in the United States
