AAUP-AFT Local 6075, founded in 1972, represents the 1700 faculty and academic staff working at Wayne State University. AAUP-AFT Local 6075 protects and furthers the interests of WSU Faculty and Academic Staff by negotiating improvements in wages, benefits and working conditions; protecting members from arbitrary and discriminatory actions; engaging in legislative and political action; and enhancing and preserving the quality of the university. AAUP-AFT Local 6075 is jointly affiliated with the American Association of University Professors and the American Federation of Teachers.

Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Office Administrator is to establish and maintain the general office activities of AAUP-AFT Local 6075. The Office Administrator, together with other AAUP-AFT Local 6075 staff, is responsible for promoting the vision, mission and core values of the union. The Office Administrator is responsible to the President of the Union or their designee.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain digital file records
  • Maintain membership records and database on a monthly basis
  • Organize and maintain office supplies
  • Monitor email, phone, and snail mail communications coming into the office; appropriately refer messages and information to relevant parties
  • Prepare materials for monthly Executive Board meetings
  • Prepare materials for and assist in coordinating General Membership meetings (2–4 times/year)
  • Attend Executive Board and General Membership meetings
  • Send out email communications to AAUP-AFT Local 6075 membership as necessary
  • Periodically update/refresh website
  • Schedule meetings, send out calendar invitations
  • Sort physical mail
  • Assist with AAUP-AFT Local 6075 election process
  • Process bi-annual Childcare Subsidy Program applications
  • Assist in making travel arrangements and processing reimbursements for AAUP-AFT Local 6075 members as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) at a proficient level
  • Knowledge of Google Office apps (Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Docs) at a proficient level
  • Ability and willingness to learn industry-specific software (Knack, Action Network)
  • Writing and editing ability preferred
  • Familiarity with or experience working with unions preferred
  • Commitment to social and economic justice desired

Schedule: This position is two and a half days a week (18.75 hours/week) in person at the AAUP-AFT Local 6075 office, located on the Wayne State University campus in midtown Detroit. Office hours are generally 9 am – 5 pm.

Benefits and Compensation: The Office Administrator position is union-represented with the Newspaper Guild of Detroit, Local 34022. Compensation is $22,285. As a fractional (50%) position, the employee may, at their option, participate in health and dental insurance, and long-term disability income insurance programs, with the employer contribution to these programs being proportional to the fraction of time worked. Other benefits include social security, worker’s compensation, official paid holidays, and non-contributory group life insurance coverage.
