Description:
IATSE Local 44 Affiliated Property Craftspersons is a professional association of craftspersons having specialized skills within the entertainment industry. Local 44 is affiliated with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada (IATSE.) Local 44 was chartered by the IATSE in May of 1939.

Local 44 has numerous collective bargaining agreements, employing over 6,500 members in more than sixty-five companies in Los Angeles and throughout the world. The Local represents a diverse group of crafts that are the top in their field. Local 44 represents members working in many diverse fields of the entertainment industry such as Motion Picture, Television, Streaming, Commercials, Music Videos, and Independent Fabrication Shops.

Purpose:
The Organizer will work with members, staff, officers, communications, and affiliated unions on internal and external organizing campaigns to educate, engage, and mobilize our membership for contract negotiations, social events, community building, training, legislative campaigns, town halls, meetings, and more.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategic and effective planning for internal organizing and mobilization of our Local 44 membership
  • Increase member engagement and strength in such important areas as: membership building (pre-member services), contract bargaining and education, grievances and workplace issues, lobbying and politics
  • Liaison to Communications Director
  • Assist and coordinate with the IATSE in organizing non-union productions and facilities
  • Assist in strike actions/picket lines
  • Provide assistance and outreach to our signatory facilities
  • Lead organizing drives
  • Work with labor allies, IATSE Locals, and Local, State, and Federal legislators to support contract and union goals
  • Implement, plan, promote, and execute organizing events
  • Attend member events, meetings, and town halls
  • Communicate and organize training for stewards, staff, members, and leadership
  • Support members through set visits
  • Perform other various duties as assigned/needed

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Labor Studies or related field
  • 2-year minimum experience in labor or related field of organizing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements, the entertainment industry, and local unions
  • Ability to work both independently as a self-starter and as part of a team in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks and deadlines with effective time management skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships and collaborate with diverse groups with patience, professionalism, and respect
  • Prior experience with and the ability to develop, implement, and lead successful union mobilization and organizing campaigns
  • Dedication to the labor movement and workers’ rights
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and proficiency in eMembership is a plus
  • Ability to understand and commit to Local 44 members and leaderships goals

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a valid drivers license, auto insurance, and an automobile in reliable working condition
  • Willingness to work extended/irregular hours, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel as needed

Salary and Benefits:

  • Annually salary range: $80,000 – $105,000 based on relevant experience
  • Benefits: Excellent medical, dental, IAP, and pension benefits
