About the Position
Hiring immediately, full-time Internal Organizer to support an SEIU Local based in Denver, Colorado.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively recruit and mentor new leaders
  • Foster worksite communication and leadership structures
  • Develop and execute internal organizing and bargaining support campaigns
  • Develop and execute plans for worksite campaigns for specific issues including budget concerns, contract negotiations, health & safety, etc
  • Enforce contracts
  • Conduct worksite meetings and labor-management meetings
  • Encourage participation in political and lobbying activities
  • Prepare and manage work plans, calendars, files, reports, and other records
  • Ability to build and maintain a leadership structure of worksite leaders and activists, including executive board members
  • Ability to take initiative and provide leadership and solutions to issues raised by worksite membership
  • Ability to adapt to highly functioning and fast-paced work environments, as well as able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work with multiple contractors/companies simultaneously
  • Ability to understand how to escalate actions within the worksite to resolve member issues
  • Ability to motivate leaders/activists to take ownership of their union

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong commitment to social justice
  • Bilingual required (English & Spanish strongly preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
  • Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Flexibility for travel based on work assignments
  • Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and database software)
  • Driver's license and reliable car is a must
  • Motivated self-starter who is also a solid team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills
  • The ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds
  • Strong understanding of the current labor challenges and how it impacts our industries
  • Ability to solve worksite issues while building leadership and moving workers into action

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Salary range of $59,000 to $75,000 based on experience.
  • Monthly car allowance of $495
  • SEIU Local 105 staff receive top notch 100% employer paid premiums for benefits including comprehensive health, dental and vision for employee and his or her spouse, domestic partner, and other eligible dependents. Accident, disability/life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance is also provided at no cost to employees. Our generous employer paid benefits package is valued at nearly 40% of an employee’s salary.
