Education & Training Coordinator
Based in New York City, NY
Local 161 is a Union of Motion Picture Script Supervisors, Production Coordinators, Assistant Production Coordinators, Travel Coordinators, Production Accountants, Assistant Production Accountants and Payroll Accountants of nearly 1700 members in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
Applications are being accepted for the position of Education & Training Coordinator. This position will be based out of the New York City headquarters. Hybrid or remote work situations will be considered for the right candidate.
Summary Statement:
The Education & Training Coordinator will help design and deliver training, education and development for members and staff of Local 161. The E&T Coordinator will work closely with the Business Agent, elected leadership, and member-led committees to brainstorm, draft and deliver training, with an emphasis on craft and leadership training and development of members. This position may require travel, some evenings, and weekends. Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Facilitating trainings, meetings and train the trainer events
- Planning, coordinating, designing and delivering trainings in collaboration with member lead committees
- Coordinating the logistical arrangements for delivery of training
- Completing needs assessments, maintaining accurate training records, and writing project reports
- Writing and/or sourcing curricula on a variety of topics including union leadership and craft skills;
- Supporting the leadership development of member-trainers and staff who teach in the Local's programs;
- Working as the liaison between workforce development organizations, employers, and the union
- Working with member led committees to develop member-to-member mentoring program
- Source and obtain alternative funding sources for the Local’s education programs
- Developing outreach materials and recruitment plans
- Develop and maintain electronic archive and annual calendar of training events
- Perform or assist with other training and development duties as assigned by the Business Agent.
Managing multiple projects at a time, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, compiling, and analyzing data, communicating status to stakeholders, identifying and resolving obstacles along the way are critical skills for this position. Building and maintaining professional relationships with members, workforce development organizations, the IATSE Training Trust Fund and Education Department, employer/management personnel, and local area Union representatives is imperative. Attendance at staff and various leadership meetings is required, as necessary. This position reports directly to the Business Agent of Local 161.
Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with at least 3 years experience in training/education related projects, as a union or community organizer, or in union work within the entertainment industry. Knowledge of IATSE, collective bargaining and the labor movement, is a plus. A professional attitude is a must.
Qualifications -The most qualified candidate needs the following:
- 3 years’ experience in training/education related projects, or as a union or community organizer;
- Demonstrated ability to write curricula, using a variety of adult teaching techniques appropriate for action-oriented education;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, make presentations, facilitate meetings, and conduct training;
- Proficient in the use of computer software and databases including: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, membership management databases, various social media platforms and cloud based/remote file systems. Familiarity with or willingness to learn Zoom, Gmail, and Slack is required.
- Strong commitment to the labor movement and social justice work with a knowledge of unions.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relations with diverse membership and staff;
- Ability to inspire and motivate others;
- Ability to take initiative, to work with a team, and to handle a fast-paced setting, multiple projects and tight deadlines;
- Ability and willingness to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, and traveling over a multi-state geographic area;
- Ability to listen to ideas of others and translate group brainstorms into draft curricula for review by stakeholders.
- Ability to receive and incorporate feedback; acknowledge mistakes and turn them into learning opportunities.
- Awareness of Racial Equity in group dynamics and the ways that race and other identities intersect in the workplace.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, setting and meeting deadlines along the way
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Salary:
The current salary range is $65,000 - $95,000 based on qualifications and experience and includes a competitive and comprehensive benefits package (MPIPHP)
