Lead Community Organizer
Based in the greater Sacramento, CA area
The Center for Workers’ Rights (CWR) seeks to fill immediately our Lead Community Organizer position, which requires proficiency in English and Spanish. This is a full-time, salaried position that involves direct communication with workers and interactions with the public, both over the phone and in person.
Founded in 2014, CWR’s mission is to create a community where workers are respected and treated with dignity. To bring that vision into reality, we provide legal representation to low wage workers, advocate for initiatives to advance workers’ rights and promote worker education, activism, and leadership in the greater Sacramento area.
Responsibilities:
The Lead Community Organizer will help develop and expand our connections to local low-wage workers. The position is based in Sacramento and requires local travel. The Lead Community Organizer will:
- Lead, train, and assist other staff members on outreach and organizing
- Assist workers seeking information about workplace rights by obtaining relevant resources and services from CWR
- Develop and implement various campaigns to increase worker engagement in the struggle for workplace advocacy
- Mobilize workers around worksite issues, public policy, and other issues affecting the lives of workers
- Engage in direct client outreach via canvassing, phone-banking, and social media
- Implement various communication systems to effectively reach low-wage, and undocumented workers
- Collect and report accurate details related to worker contacts
- Communicate with attorneys and other staff related to client experiences and current issues
- Provide generalized support for all programs and administrative work
- Perform other special projects and duties assigned
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-5 years prior experience organizing workers within low-wage fields and immigrant communities, and campaign development in a labor or non-profit setting
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Spanish
- Experience with staff and team leadership
- A working understanding of current workplace protections
- California driver’s license in good standing, current verifiable insurance, and access to a vehicle for work related, local travel
- Quick learner of new technologies
- Detail oriented
Compensation:
Salary range is between $70,000 and $80,000 annually depending on experience. This position is exempt, and is eligible for healthcare benefits.
