Legislative and Political Coordinator

Based in Washington, DC

 

The National Association of Letter Carriers, an AFL-CIO affiliated union, representing 290,000 active and retired letter carriers is seeking a Legislative and Political Coordinator. The position is based in Washington, D.C.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter and collaborator with excellent communications, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. In addition, the candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, environment in an independent, communicative, and collaborative fashion.

The position will be involved in various aspects of the union’s legislative and political agenda including, monitoring congress and priority legislation, attending hearings, briefings and stakeholder meetings, coordinating Capitol Hill outreach programs, assist in preparation and distribution of written materials, schedule management, generating regular reports on various legislative and political activities and priorities, legislative bills and Capitol Hill-related activity, PAC event and spending coordination. The position will work directly with the Chief of Staff in tandem with various internal and external staff. The position is ideal for a congressional scheduler looking to tackle a wide array of duties.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent experience;
  • Three to five years’ experience with labor, non-profit or Capitol Hill;
  • The ability to perform multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and flexibility a must.
