Young workers are working right now to build the Colorado labor movement.  We are seeking a dynamic full-time Young Worker Organizer to build off the energy from Colorado’s organizing successes at Google, Starbucks, Meow Wolf, Uber, and others.

Overview of responsibilities:
The Young Worker Organizer (YWO) will work with local union affiliates, central labor councils, and the Colorado AFL-CIO in the creation and delivery of a comprehensive plan to recruit, educate, engage, develop, support, and organize Colorado’s young workers.

Description of duties:

  • Conduct one-on-one leadership meetings with local union leaders to achieve their needs, feedback, buy-in and support for a comprehensive plan to build with Colorado’s young workers, including mentorship opportunities.
  • Develop transformational relationships with Colorado youth and young worker advocacy organizations.
  • Lead a “Becoming a Young Worker Leader” summit.
  • Coordinate and convene affiliates who have active young worker programs to build a broader young worker movement in Colorado.
  • Create and facilitate a statewide Colorado Young Worker table.
  • Develop social media content rooted in AFL-CIO’s Common Sense Economics curriculum.
  • Target and work with one school district for inclusion of labor history and collective bargaining into their curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 1-3 years of labor, community, or other organizing experience
  • Experience as a trainer and/or facilitator preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to make professional and persuasive presentations and to meaningfully engage a wide range of diverse audiences including different labor groups and community allies.
  • Demonstrated success implementing training and work plans.
  • Capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Effective time management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Data management skills and proficiency
  • Ability to accept feedback and to provide feedback effectively and with sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse range of co-workers, leaders and organizations.
  • Ability to travel within Colorado frequently in performance of the duty of the job with occasional travel outside of Colorado.
  • Must have own transportation and the ability to travel.
  • Ability to work and long and extended hours.
  • A spirit of creativity and innovation in developing programs.

Location, Salary and Benefits

  • This position is based in the Denver metro area and is union-represented
  • The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000
