SUMMARY
Compiles and keeps records of financial transactions for establishment by performing the following duties in accordance with established accounting department procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Independently analyzes data to compile business transactions.
  • Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents such as invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts.
  • Summarizes details in separate journals or computer files and interfaces data to the general ledger.
  • Reconciles and balances journals, ledgers and reports.
  • Compiles reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and other items pertinent to operation of business.
  • Designs, creates and maintains spreadsheets and/or databases for the purpose of recording and tracking various transactions and verifying same to the computerized accounting system.
  • Computes, prepares, and mails monthly statements to affiliates, checks to local unions, accounts payable vendors and other recipients.
  • Completes records to or through the general ledger.
  • Operates computer work station, printer, photocopy machine and typewriter.
  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to independently analyze data.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to type 60 WPM based on standard typing test. Ability to operate computer work station to input data, modify data, query data and generate reports. Ability to learn and use basic level Microsoft Word for Windows. Ability to learn and use FileMaker Pro for Windows database software application. Ability to use basic level Microsoft Excel for Windows spreadsheet software application. Ability to learn advanced level Microsoft Excel for Windows. Ability to learn and use other software applications. Ability to operate printers, photocopy equipment, telephone equipment, electric and electronic typewriter, calculator, and other office machines.
