Digital Communications Organizer

Based mainly between the Seattle Labor Temple and UFCW 3000’s Des Moines, WA office


The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 3000 is seeking an experienced Organizer whose focus will be on Digital Communications, social media, and storytelling. To help connect the 50,000+ members of the largest union in Washington State with each other and with future members, other unions, community allies, political decision-makers, and our communities at large, telling the stories of our members and our union movement.

Candidates should have excellent communication and technical skills, an interest in collaborative work, the ability to work in person, in the field, as well as remotely, and to work irregular hours.

This position is best fit for a creative and proactive individual experienced in organizing and digital communication, familiar with social media content production and account management along with digital storytelling and other online communication. The right candidate is a confident collaborator comfortable meeting and speaking with workers through all channels (i.e., peer-to-peer texting, mass texting, social media comments and direct messages, email, phone, and in person).

The UFCW 3000 Communications Department is a strong team whose responsibilities often overlap; we all work together as a team to accomplish our overall mission. The Digital Communications Organizer works closely with staff throughout the organization.

Experience, skills, knowledge required:

  • Writing and editing skills: Ability to draft communications in written audio/video mediums that inspire action, and always center worker voices
  • Organizing, social skills, and storytelling: High level of comfort helping people move past their fear, drawing out people’s stories, and bring creativity for how to share stories
  • Digital skills, mail, email, web publishing, and printing: Ability to use or learn to use multiple social media platforms, in-house production and mailing machinery, email publishing platforms, print layout programs and web-based editors to send and publish communications content, as well as use of basic database skills to execute physical mailings and electronic communications.
  • Administrative tasks: Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, new Data Systems to enter, process and track data. Will send and track critical communication regarding our work. Must meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks well.

Experience, skills, knowledge preferred:

  • Organizing and Storytelling: Supporting union and nonunion workers to tell their own stories in ways that are powerful and drive organizing in our union and in the movement, in person and online. Creative storytelling that connects workers and tells the story of the power of the union
    • Experience in field organizing or organizing in your workplace
    • Written or spoken familiarity with language other than English
    • Knowledge, skills, experience, or interest in video production and/or editing

Job Location:
Applicants should be local to UFCW 3000’s jurisdiction (Washington State, Eastern Idaho, and Northeastern Oregon) and prepared to work mainly between the Seattle Labor Temple and UFCW 3000’s Des Moines, WA office.
