Reporter/Writer

The NYS Public Employees Federation (PEF) is a labor union representing around 50,000 professional, scientific, and technical workers in NYS government. Members include healthcare, education, corrections and supervision, youth services, direct care, and other professional titles.
Position Summary:
Working with the Reporter/Editor and the Director of Communications, the Reporter/Writer reports and writes news and feature stories for PEF publications as assigned. The Reporter/Writer is also responsible for additional written communications produced by the department, including but not limited to, press releases, advertising copy, and other printed products (flyers, brochures, booklets, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Two or more years of professional writing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or closely related field, is preferred.
- Familiarity with digital communications techniques, including social media, is desired.
- The ability to travel to various work locations, located in NY State, including those not accessible by mass transportation.
Successful candidate must demonstrate:

- Willingness to learn new communications platforms and adjust your writing as needed is essential.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail while retaining the ability to see the bigger picture.
- Initiative to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to clearly communicate matters to all levels of management.
Job Duties:
- Interviews PEF leadership, membership, etc. for news and feature stories for PEF publications as assigned.
- Reports/writes news and feature stories for PEF publications as assigned.
- Proofreads copy as assigned.
- Assists the Reporter/Editor with writing headlines and cutlines for PEF publications as assigned.
- Completes assigned projects by announced deadlines.
- Photographs union events on an ad hoc basis.
- Must be available for travel.
- Consistent and reliable attendance.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range: $52,673.00 (minimum) - $72,506.00 (maximum)
