Field Representative
Non-Fiction

The Writers Guild of America, East, AFL-CIO (WGAE) is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news and online media. The Guild negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members; conducts programs, seminars and events on issues of interest to writers; and presents writers’ views to various bodies of government.

Primary functions and responsibilities:

  • Maintain consistent and professional communication at all assigned non-fiction TV shops to retain knowledge of daily activities
  • Evaluate possible violations of the collective bargaining agreements through interpretation of non-fiction collective bargaining agreements
  • File grievances as per all non-fiction collective bargaining agreements
  • Train shop members and shop leaders in various topics including but not limited to their rights under the collective bargaining agreement, Weingarten rights and/or shop leadership skills
  • Lead or second chair negotiations for first and renewal non-fiction TV contracts
  • Engage and mobilize members in contract negotiation campaigns
  • Interface with WGAE leadership regarding all aspects of non-fiction TV negotiations and repping
  • Prepare and attend Labor Management Committee and Diversity Committee meetings
  • Facilitate WGAE training for the non-fiction TV community
  • Facilitate press strategy at each shop in coordination with the Director of Communications
  • Collaborate with Director of organizing and nonfiction team to help support industrywide and new organizing efforts.
  • Communicate with shop members about the Guild dues structure and facilitate compliance with union security provisions
  • Additional duties will include applying an organizing model to negotiation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements for members already represented by the WGAE

Qualifications

  • At least five years of successful union organizing, bargaining, or servicing experience.
  • Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and members.
  • Ability to conduct research and gather information for negotiations, strategy development and other servicing and organizing activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours and weekends
  • Ability to develop and execute a work plan

Salary and benefits
There is a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. Salary range is $89,085 and $95,935. Benefits not limited to employer paid health insurance, defined benefit pension plan.
