Please Note: Solidarity Center staff enjoy a hybrid telework/in-person schedule. We also have a mandatory vaccine policy and safety protocols in all our facilities. Summary
Solidarity Center seeks an mid-career professional with a passion for staff development and learning to organize training, coursework, and other activities that will advance the skills, knowledge, experience, and opportunities for our staff worldwide. An entrepreneurial self-starter will be needed to shape this new position, which is part of our growing Organizational and Leadership Development team. The Learning and Development (L&D) Coordinator will help to implement new initiatives and to expand existing ones. These might include: mentoring and job shadowing programs, an on-line learning management system, a database or library of professional development materials and opportunities, staff newsletters, job swapping and cross-functional training, staff exchanges and field trips, and manager-staff dialogues for goal setting and follow-up.

This individual will coordinate employee engagement in both live and on-line learning activities, communicating with managers as needed in regard to funding, scheduling, and approval of staff participation. The L&D Coordinator will support senior staff and managers in developing learning content and material. This position also will partner with designated field and country staff on activities and opportunities that take place outside of headquarters and/or include non-headquarters staff.

The L&D Coordinator will assist and advise staff in their efforts to develop and pursue professional development strategies and goals, helping individual employees to identify and evaluate relevant training and learning opportunities. The Learning and Development Coordinator will serve as an information clearinghouse and go-to person for staff in resolving issues and answering questions related to external training and learning opportunities. In this capacity, the L&D Coordinator will assist in coordinating volunteer opportunities on union organizing campaigns. This individual also will work with external organizations that provide professional development services and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering training or mentoring programs, online learning systems, or related initiatives.
  • Experience in the international and/or nonprofit sector.
  • Familiarity with professional development practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge of trade unions and the U.S. labor movement.
  • Understanding of adult education techniques, coupled with natural curiosity and a passion for learning.
  • Ability to work and interact easily with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments with limited supervision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in adult education/learning, political science, international relations, labor relations, or a related field, and/or seven years equivalent work experience.
  • Keen listening skills and an orientation toward customer service and constructive problem solving.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Computer literacy for word processing and simple spreadsheets.

Proficiency in a non-English language is highly desirable.

Supervisor: Deputy Director of Organizational Development

Specific Duties

  • Work with individual staff to develop and pursue their learning and development strategies and goals.
  • Respond to staff questions about internal and external L&D services and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a database or index of learning and development opportunities.
  • Curate, maintain, organize, and expand Solidarity Center’s library of learning and development materials.
  • Help develop, distribute, and contribute to ongoing communication mechanisms (newsletters, email lists, online forums, e.g.) to inform staff of L&D opportunities.
  • Assist with logistics and other arrangements for engaging staff in approved learning and development opportunities.
  • Assist in scheduling, advancing, and tracking regular meetings between headquarters staff and managers to set professional goals and discuss ongoing development opportunities.
  • Administer staff mentoring program in partnership with designated personnel.
  • Serve as organizational liaison and day-to-day point of contact for Humentum Learning Services and other training and learning providers as directed.
  • Provide contact, log-in, and other information to staff for available learning resources, courses, and services.
  • Resolve staff issues with external learning and professional development providers.
  • Assist with the distribution of staff development funds.
  • Coordinate with designated personnel on professional development opportunities for non-headquarters staff, including assistance with logistics for field visits to Washington.
  • Coordinate with designated personnel on professional development opportunities for headquarters staff that take place in the field and/or involve field-based staff.

This is a collective bargaining unit position, generously compensated with a gross annual salary starting at approximately $76,138 USD. A robust benefits package includes fully paid health insurance, a retirement plan and pension, life insurance, and ample paid time off for holidays, vacation, and medical leave. Pre-tax deduction programs are also available for commuting, dependent care, and health care expenses. In addition, we offer opportunities and funds for professional development.
