Strategic Campaign Director

The Strategic Organizing Center (SOC) is seeking a Strategic Campaign Director to lead comprehensive campaigns that challenge America’s largest corporations to take responsibility for how their business practices impact working families and their communities. Strategic Campaign Directors lead the research, development and execution of strategy for these corporate reform campaigns. The SOC – formerly Change to Win – is a dynamic coalition of North America’s most progressive labor unions and a leading force for social, racial and economic justice in our country.

Strategic Campaign Directors are integral members of SOC’s broader Strategic Research and Campaigns (SRC) team, a growing and diverse multi-disciplinary group that develops and executes comprehensive corporate reform campaigns in partnership with SOC affiliate unions. Today, our work is focused on such companies as Amazon, Activision Blizzard, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Uber and campaigns including the Fight for $15 and Code CWA.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic research and campaign development processes.
  • Design campaign plans and supervise the execution of campaign tactics by a team of corporate campaigners, attorneys and communicators in close collaboration with affiliate campaign leadership.
  • Build relationships with external partners and specialists that enable effective multi-disciplinary and cross-organizational campaigning.
  • Mentor junior campaigners on strategy and execution and oversee their work product and development of their professional skills.
  • Assist the Director of the Strategic Research and Campaigns Department with overall management responsibilities.

Job Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of strong campaign experience in union, political or community organizing.
  • 2+ years of experience as a campaign supervisor.
  • Strong passion for progressive social change, including exposing class-, racial- and gender-based workplace abuses, required.
  • Excellent corporate research, writing and public speaking skills a must.
  • Excellent corporate research, report writing, and public speaking skills required.
  • Ability to train, develop and coordinate the work of staff a must.
  • Experience shaping internal and external messages required.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work in teams and under pressure a must.
  • Must be willing to work long and irregular hours, including work on weekends as necessary, as campaign needs dictate.
  • A valid driver’s license and travel is required.
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks, corporate filings and quantitative data analysis a plus.
  • Spanish and/or other non-English language skills a plus.

Location: The SOC’s offices are in New York City (10004) and Washington, DC (20036). The SOC offers hybrid work options from these two locations.

Compensation: $80k-$120k (depending on experience) plus excellent benefits.
