The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), IFPTE Local 2001, is a national professional aerospace labor union representing 17,000 engineers, technical workers, pilots, and other professionals in the aerospace industry. Presently, our union represents employees at The Boeing Company, Spirit AeroSystems, and Triumph Composite Systems.

Organized in 1946, SPEEA is an affiliated local union of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), AFL-CIO.

SPEEA prides itself as a very democratic union, governed by a member-elected Executive Board and Council. Daily operations are managed by a professional staff directed and managed by the Executive Director.

SPEEA is hiring an experienced Organizer. Labor union professionals with experience in bargaining or other facets of union representation are welcome to apply. The primary function of the SPEEA Organizer is to assist with organizing and campaign support.


  • Assisting non-union workers through the process of forming their union.
  • Help develop workplace leaders and build organizing committees that help aerospace professionals win their elections during employer’s anti-union efforts.
  • Mobilizing workers around workplace actions.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders to achieve strong standards for our members and communities.
  • Utilize active listening skills to determine workplace concerns, communicate options for improving a workplace and work with individuals on a plan to win improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with a team of organizers and contribute to campaign strategy.
  • Lead individual and group meetings as well as taking the lead on coordinating public events.
  • Help grow our union’s capacity through internal organizing campaigns.


  • Previous external union organizing experience is required.
  • Previous experience guiding workers through the NLRB process is highly desirable.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively and persuasively with individuals and groups in a variety of stressful environments.
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Works well independently within the context of a plan as well as on a team.
  • Computer proficiency with email, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Commitment to preserving and enhancing good, middle class jobs.
  • Ability to work beyond a forty-hour work week, including evenings and some weekends that are compensated.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including spending multiple days away from home.
  • Current driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

This position is located in Washington state from SPEEA offices in Seattle and/or Everett, with flexibility to partially work from home.

This position is union-represented.

Starting salary is $85,000. Applicants with exceptional expertise may start at a higher rate.
