Payroll Auditor

The Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802 AFM is the largest local union of professional musicians in the world with a jurisdiction covering New York City, Sullivan, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, NY and parts of southwestern Connecticut. Local 802 AFM seeks a Payroll Auditor to assist in the intake, entry, verification, and management of data, including its related payment processing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze and generate reports on health benefit, pension, and work dues data received from employers.
  • Maintain electronic database and filing system for tracking contract compliance and receipt of payments by employers.
  • Monitor employer compliance with musician contracts and identify violations of contract and incorrect application of contract terms related to wage scales, health and pension payments and other applicable terms and conditions.
  • Initiate action to enforce employer compliance with applicable contractual requirements and resolve grievances/errors in accordance with the contract term, to the extent possible, by direct, telephone or written communication with employers and musicians.
  • Generate letters to employers raising grievances for late and/or inaccurate contract filings and health and pension payments (working in tandem with field staff/representatives).
  • Provide assistance and education/information to employers and musicians regarding the proper completion and filing of performance contracts and other reports/filings.
  • Work closely with Union members every 6 months to help them maintain health plan coverage.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years of clerical experience
  • Ability to work onsite (NYC)
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and data-centric methodologies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Good decision making and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Focused, accurate, approachable, dependable, consistent, collaborative and demonstrates initiative

Preferred Qualifications

  • Labor union operations knowledge and experience
  • Experience in the performing arts and/or supporting fields
  • Corporate or not-for-profit A/P, A/R or data management

Salary & Benefits

  • This is a full-time bargaining unit position, the employment terms of which are covered under an agreement with the Local 153 OPEIU union for clerical staff.
  • Current minimum starting wage rate is $22.00 per hour (per the Local 153 collective bargaining agreement)
  • Benefits include health insurance, defined benefit pension plan, 401(k) and paid time off.
