Printing & Design Specialist

Based in Quincy, MA


TITLE: Printing & Design Specialist
DIVISION: Printing & Mailing
REPORTS TO: Director of Information Technology Services

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY: The Printing & Design Specialist produces, assembles, and distributes all phases of the graphic materials, and assists in carrying out other department functions.


  • Operates machinery including digital presses, paper cutter, collator, folder, high speed copier, bindery equipment.
  • Prepares lay-outs and pagination sequence.
  • Applies knowledge to determine quality of finished product prior to processing.
  • Performs routine preventive and corrective equipment maintenance on printing, assembly, and related equipment.
  • Communicates with staff, locals and outside clients on product and graphic design.
  • Provides graphic advice, design, and production assistance to clients for small scale projects, on a limited basis.
  • Assists with receiving, distribution, and shipping of materials and supplies; may assist in recording inventory.
  • Attends off-site conferences and meetings; provides logistic set-up, delivers materials, loads and unloads supplies as needed.
  • Uses related software, such as Adobe Acrobat and InDesign.
  • Assists in ITS Department as needed.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Maintains familiarity with department procedures.
  • Trains other personnel on equipment as requested.
  • Assists with electronic mail processing, scanning, sublimation printing, and other projects as needed.
  • Works cooperatively to assist with other department responsibilities.
  • Assists with MTA facilities when needed.
  • Distributes materials and provides general assistance at conferences and meetings.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail for all departments and subsidiaries.
  • Carries out responsibilities with a positive, cooperative spirit.
  • Willingness to assist in other areas as needed.
  • May assist with supplies and inventory records.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • High School Diploma, Technical/Vocational training preferred.
  • One to three years of printing or related experience.
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills.
  • Familiarity with related software, such as Adobe Acrobat and InDesign and other related technologies.
  • Experience in operating software driven digital equipment.
  • Familiarity with assembly and distribution procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and operate new equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license required for transporting and delivering materials via company van.
  • Ability to interact positively with members and staff.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
