The union has approximately 425 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 175,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in 11 states and Washington, D.C. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has 2 million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities. 32BJ SEIU’s headquarters are in New York City.

The Human Resources Assistant is part of a four-person HR team that administers HR programs and activities for staff across the Union’s jurisdiction. Reporting to the Director of HR, the HR Assistant provides administrative support in all areas of HR. This is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Hiring and Onboarding – Review new hire materials for completion; provide logistical support for quarterly Group Orientation for new staff hires; update related data systems;
  • HR Data System – In 2022, 32BJ is migrating to a new HR data system. The HR Assistant will run periodic reports to review changes and flag inconsistencies, and learn and maintain new document storage system;
  • Benefits – Submit workers’ comp and disability forms to insurance carriers as directed by the HR Manager for Benefits
  • Timekeeping – Weekly collection and reporting of timesheet data through the HR system, including alerting administrative staff as weekly deadlines approach;
  • Additional duties will be added over time.


  • Career interest in Human Resources preferred;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly represent HR policies and procedures to staff;
  • Ability to manage multiple imperatives, being responsive to immediate needs while keeping scheduled work on track, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong desktop and database skills, including MS Office and Zoom, and an ability and interest in learning new technology.


  • The position is a full-time position based in New York, NY.
  • This position occasionally requires time outside normal business hours. All Union staff may be required to staff Union events or actions, on- or off-site.
  • The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.

The salary range for this role begins at $50,893. SEIU 32BJ offers a full benefits package that includes employer-paid medical, dental and vision plans, for full-time employees and their qualified dependents, and a defined benefit pension plan and 401K.
