Internal Organizer

LiUNA Local Union 792 is seeking a dedicated and creative Internal Organizer to be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing an internal organizing campaign to sign nonmembers into union membership in our existing bargaining units.

Our internal campaign will initially focus in the Shasta County area. A successful campaign in Shasta County can lead to additional internal organizing projects in our Northern and Central California area.

This is not an existing position we are looking to establish a new position. The selected candidate will have significant creative input in establishing the new position. In addition to the focus on internal organizing the selected individual will have broad and significant exposure to our union’s daily representation activities including contract negotiations and individual representation. A multi-discipline career in public sector union representation is possible to develop out of this position.

  • Design and implement an internal organizing campaign that targets nonmembers in existing bargaining units.
  • Sign nonmembers into union membership.
  • Maintain regular contact with union staff in the coordination of the campaign. This will be a team effort although the internal organizer will lead the campaign.
  • Develop metrics to gauge progress.
  • Report regularly to union staff and at least monthly to the union Executive Board.
  • Identify and develop site leaders to assist with the campaign.
  • Conduct individual/group meetings with workers to discuss and advocate union membership.
  • Motivate employees to join and participate in their union.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Exemplary communication skills, oral and written.
  • Sound judgement in relating to and interacting with public sector employees.
  • The ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Computer skills at a minimum for Word and Excel.
  • Social media skills.
  • A dependable car and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Willingness to conduct house visits and site visits.
  • Previous experience in union work is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the California public sector is desirable. Be prepared to discuss the MMBA and Janus if you are interviewed. If you don’t know what these are you may not be the right candidate.
